Cameron first came to the attention of Lily when he won an award at the Gambaru Adversity Awards back in 2016, for his involvement and perseverance in martial arts and football in spite of adversity. Having been diagnosed with cerebral palsy as an infant, Cameron faced difficulties and challenges growing up, but taking part in sports helped him to overcome these challenges and allow him to achieve things he never thought he could.
The latest of those things was being selected for England’s under-21 cerebral palsy team, an experience Cameron said he will never forget. As founder of Harrogate based football club Adversity United, a club for children with disabilities, the young and ambitious 18-year-old has inspired many others to not let the challenges they face get in the way of achieving their dreams.
Cameron has committed himself wholeheartedly to ensuring that no one who has a disability is made to feel cast aside. Along with Adversity United, Cameron has a won an astounding number of awards in a short period of time - including Harrogate and District Volunteering Oscars, Yorkshire Young Achievers awards, and Children of Courage awards.
As supporters of the Adversity Awards, Lily has hosted a number of charity days to raise money and support the work they do within the community. Cameron himself visited our office on the day of our sports themed charity day, to share his story and tell us how our support can change the lives of many other young people.
All of us at Lily are so proud of what Cameron has achieved and celebrate his new found status as a national role model. We wish him all the success for the future and for the team.
