Multi-factor Authentication
As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding your IT digital assets and workspace, we are excited to introduce Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) across your organisation.
What is Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)?
MFA is a powerful security measure that requires users to provide two or more authentication factors when accessing protected resources. Unlike relying solely on just a username and password, MFA adds an extra layer of verification, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorised access.
Why Are We Implementing MFA As Standard For Businesses?
- Significantly Enhanced Security: By combining multiple factors (such as something you know, something you have, and something you are), MFA significantly strengthens your organisation’s security fundamentals.
- Mitigating Cyber Threats: MFA helps thwart common identity attacks, including phishing scams, credential sealing, and brute force attempts on an individual, groups, or a business.
- Compliance Requirements: Many industry regulations now mandate the use of MFA to protect sensitive data, such as Government backed Cyber Essentials, which is recognised by the United Kingdom’s National Cyber Security Centre – NCSC.gov.uk
How does MFA work?
When a user attempts to sign in, MFA prompts the user to provide additional verification beyond just their password. These verification methods can include either.
- Authentication Applications: Apps like Microsoft or Google Authenticator generate time-based codes.
- Text Messages (SMS): A one-time code sent to the user’s mobile phone.
How will Lily be enabling MFA for our customers?
- Automatic Activation: We will be auto enabling all users across your organisation, prompting for MFA during sign-in. Some colleagues in your organisation may already have MFA set up, meaning they won’t need to do a thing!
- Please follow the link below to our short self-help guide for all you need to know about setting up MFA with a mobile device.
Is there a cost associated for MFA enhanced security measures?
MFA will be introduced free of charge to all users while the roll out and implementation is completed during April and May 2024. Following completion, MFA will then be charged at just £0.50p per user licence monthly for enhanced security measures, configuration, and additional management in safeguarding your digital assets, users and business, this will take effect from 1st June 2024.
